The Nobel Prize and the life stories of the Nobel Laureates provide a rich source of inspiration on which the Nobel Center will build its exhibitions, media productions and educational activities. For many years, the City of Stockholm has reserved this site for public activities of international interest. We believe that the Nobel Center will enhance the value of this location and make it more accessible for visitors to Stockholm, as well as its residents. Architect selection Over 140 architects were considered by a specially appointed evaluation committee. A final 12 were invited to the architectural competition. Financing Most of the financing has been secured thanks to a generous donation from the Erling-Persson Family Foundation and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. Architectural competition The international competition to design Nobel Center begins with some of the world’s foremost architects in participation. Detailed planning process After a planning process with two public consultations, the City of Stockholm approved the new local plan for Nobel Center in Spring 2016. Archaeological excavation Considering the shipyard that once existed on the competition site, an exciting excavation awaits. Construction start When the detailed local plan has been approved and the building permit awarded, the construction work may commence. The construction period will be about two years.
